Who: Girls and Boys in grades 3rd-7th.
Teams:
Westfield Elite Basketball offers two competitive “travel” programs for grades 3-7 under Westfield Youth Sports: Thunder (Boys) and Lightning (Girls). These teams participate in the Indiana Youth Basketball League (IYBL) and focus on skill development, teamwork, and competitive play. Players are selected through tryouts.
There are several "skill divisions" and IYBL does an incredible job of getting teams into the right divisions.
Where do we play: Westfield, Noblesville, Fishers, and Lebanon with no overnight tournaments
Tryouts: All players must register in advance online. Evaluation includes drills, scrimmages, and skill assessments
3rd-6th grade:
Date: September 13, 2025 at Westfield Intermediate School (times TBA)
7th grade:
Date: TBD -7th grade tryouts will be after Westfield Middle School tryouts, season & costs will be different
**Teams announced within 48 hours of tryouts and the number of teams per grade level based on turnout and skill evaluations
Cost:
3rd-6th grade: $550 for full season with additional costs of admission fees and optional spirt wear. Payment due upon team placement and acceptance
7th grade: $500 for full season with additional costs of admission fees and optional spirt wear. Payment due upon team placement and acceptance
Includes: 18 guaranteed games over 2 IYBL sessions (Fall & Winter). The program cost covers the fee for both sessions and includes warmups, and a reversible uniform (jersey and shorts) and reversible practice jersey and league fees.
Practice Commitment: (2) one hour practices per week at the PAC and (1) weekly skills session. Practices typically held on consistent days/times after team selection
Games Commitment: Teams will begin play in October and play through March. There are two separate 9 game sessions (fall and winter) with a tournament after each. Each session will include one game per week for eight weeks plus a tournament with some weeknight games. This equates to a minimum of 18 games over the two sessions. If your athlete can't commit to play both sessions, please consider if this is a good fit. The expectation is that athletes that accept a spot on a Westfield Elite team commit to this over other non-school related activities.
The games take place on Saturdays with an occasional Sunday game. You DO NOT get a schedule upfront, but instead, IYBL sets each team's schedule about 7-14 days out. They do this to make sure games are competitive and it makes for a much better experience.
